C18th Enamelled Vignette
Norbury Manor, Derbyshire
This small, painted and enamelled early eighteenth century vignette sustained some damage and furthermore not all of the broken pieces were recovered. It had been repaired on a earlier occasion and required a mixture of both conservation and restoration.
The old mending leads were removed and the glass pieces resin bonded in order to restore clarity to the picture. The legs of the man in yellow were missing and were repainted using clues that remained to create an artistic interpretation of the likely pose. This painted 'in-fill' was applied to a clear glass backing-plate that was 'sandwiched' to the original.
